The Adventures of Careers Fairs, Cameras and a Jamie Cramb

Todays blog will be about what has happened in the past couple of weeks. I attended the creative youth assembly group, interviewed photographer Gregg McNeill, and have meet people and organisations at Forth Valley College’s Career Fair in Stirling and Falkirk. Throughout this blog I will be talking about what I, and the rest of the community team at Creative Stirling have been doing during this time, and will run down on what I have learned and experienced from it. So, to quote Super Mario “lets a go!”.

On 13th of January Sam, Ryan, TJ, and I went to see and interview Gregg McNeil, who is specialised in Victorian photography and was also a film director. I have met Gregg a few times before, as he sells his work and volunteers downstairs in Made in Stirling store. I interviewed him and asked him some questions about his work, one of the questions asking about his favourite photo of all time. That was quite tricky for him saying that its like telling someone what is your favourite movie, which yeah I can totally agree on that. TJ also asked him questions, giving a news reporter style of interview, while I took over filming with our camera. Gregg also showed us how to use the camera, which was great for learning some things we did not know. Afterwards, TJ and I got our Victorian style photos taken, which took a long 8 minutes to develop, but was worth the wait! At the end of the month, Gregg will coming to CYA (Creative Youth Assembly) as the first guest of this year. He will be talking about what he does to everyone, and about his experience in the industry. I am really looking forward to it, and we will see Gregg there on the 25th of February. Weeks ago on the 4th of February Sam, Ryan, and I went to Stirling Forth Valley Collage for the careers fair with other organisations like LGBT Youth Scotland, Papyrus, and even Irn Bru (how amazing is that?!). There were so many stalls, so we decided to have a look around. One stall had a guessing game to memorise what was in the box, which was quite challenging to remember… from what I do remember, there was a Lego van, a paper clip, and a slug fidget thing? Yeah there a lot of weird stuff in the box, and I only 5 right (lol)… but hey, the nice woman at the stall, and she even said that I was better than some other people who took part, so that’s a plus! There was a prize for the winner too, which was an apple watch! I don’t really like watches all that much and don’t wear them, so if I did win it I would have give to one of my family members anyway.

Also, like I said in the beginning, there was also an organisation called Papyrus, which is a mental health charity here in the UK, who I didn’t know about until the event. Jess, the person who was at the stall, was super nice and I talked to her about my mental health blog that I did a few weeks ago. She immediately went on to our website to read it, which you can do too, click here and check out yourselves! Jess said she was very impressed with it, and so I want to give her and papyrus a big shout out! If you want seek help for your poor mental health, you can call them at 08000684141 and to see their website it’s papyrus-uk.org.

Two days after Stirling, we went to Falkirk and it went just as successfully as Stirling did! We met some new organisations, like Fast Forward and Homeless Prevention. Fast Forward are an organisation who educate about gambling risk, helping young people be aware of gambling harms. They are going to be coming in as part of the Jasmine Journeys project! Homeless Prevention help individuals you by doing housing advice around issues at home and many more issues people might have. This was also my first time visiting Falkirk collage, and it was massive! I think it’s actually bigger than the one in Stirling. We met some people there who knew Ryan, which was cool because Ryan lives near Falkirk and often works at Grangemouth HS. In both colleges there was a big, inflatable dart board that me and Ryan had a blast playing with, and the chips in the cafeteria were delicious- it sent so many memories back to Sam from when she went to college (and ate chips, cheese, and curry sauce every day!).

After so many weeks off the radio, this week I am back and “Cramb in Creative” will be back on air this Thursday, 20th of February, as usual at 3pm. For now, this was an update on what I, and the rest of the team, have been doing this past couple of weeks. So for this week and next week, we will be back to normal! So remember, Thursdays at 3pm for “Cramb in Creative” on Stirling Community Radio.

See ya!

- Jamie.
