We are looking for some enthusiastic and engaging Maths Teachers to support us to deliver a programme of creative maths workshops, as part of Maths Week Scotland & through the October break.
Creative Stirling plan to host a second creative maths exhibition with workshops, following the success of last year’s project, created by the late George Connell. This will be held in memory of George, showcasing his work and continuing to engage local children with math’s in a fun, accessible and creative way.
We will be curating the exhibition alongside George’s family to make another successful project, engaging the wider community and with people of all ages. The accessibility of the project last year was key, allowing those who perhaps struggle with maths to learn about fractions, shape, and grid work in a new visual way by being creative and thinking/learning from a new perspective.
The project will allow you (the teacher) to learn how to deliver workshops using materials/kits developed and created by George Connell, which you can then integrate into your own school STEAM activities and lesson plans to continue George’s life work for years to come.
Types of work included in the exhibition and workshops include using geometric construction kits, using pre-cut card to build shapes such as Rhombicosidodecahedron and Truncated Icosidodecahedron. Other kits/interactive work may also include tangrams, magnetic kinetic faction boards, fraction quilts and apps to create difference shape designs using iPads.
The exhibition will run from 27th September until the 24th of October, with the workshops being delivered during after school hours between 27th September until the 1st October, and through the October holidays between the 11th until the 15th of October.
