Job Advertisement – Made in Stirling Assistant Curator

Made in Stirling are currently recruiting for the post of Assistant Curator to work within the Store alongside its lead Creative team and the artists that volunteer within the store.  As a small enterprise, the post holder will be responsible for the roles as outlined in the job description and will work to short, as well as long lead timetables regarding organizing and promoting events, locally.  

Reports to MIS Producer and lead curator; liaises with Finance and admin for Creative Stirling re sales and info pertaining to MIS store; part of Creative Stirling team, contributing to event and creative workshop scheduling and support and venue hub operations day to day.

27 – 32 hours per week at £8.60 per hour.
Must work every other weekend and late-night Thursdays [8pm] plus some flexibility for occasional evening events at other times, as required. 
Position is provisional for 6 months, pending review of terms will be made permanent. 

Made in Stirling is a not for profit, show and sell concept store held under the umbrella of its larger charitable organization, Creative Stirling.  Creative Stirling is a social enterprise and our inclusive business model for MIS store promotes, sells, and offers advice to over 100 local artists & makers and other creatives from across the central belt, promoting the practice of art & design through its workshops and ensuring the development of high quality products and events and other activity to support artists in the region.  

The successful candidate must be local to Stirling area, with at least 1-year experience working within a busy retail environment. We are looking for a candidate who excels at dealing with the public and understands the creative mindset. The ideal candidate will be really interested in what we do and willing to learn with us, as we grow our business at the new creative hub. They have a level of experience in a role of responsibility, as they will be lead contact for MIS daily operations as regards access, staffing and venue security, with basic knowledge of Health and Safety procedures. Additional training will be provided, as required. This is a key role for MIS operations, requiring the candidate to be consistent, reliable and have excellent people management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES for this role with Made in Stirling can be broken down into 4 key areas:

Being an assistant curator at Made In Stirling you will control and manage the planning process, helping to achieve sales budgets, managing stock levels, planning individual ranges and working with some of our key artists. You’ll be a strong team player who enjoys using your initiative to maximise all sales opportunity throughout the year. Through your passion for visuals you’ll help deliver the brand vision for Made In Stirling & Creative Stirling. 

  • You will ensure the floor is visually exciting and commercial and will measure performance by money mapping and creating financial reports 
  • You embrace and drive digital and multi-channel initiatives FB / insta 
  • You will be responsible for new line placement, re-working looks, and launching new visual concepts 
  • You will have strong communication skills to relay key sales information to the artists within store. 
  • You will ensure the customer remains at the forefront of everything that the team do 


  • Proactively manage artist led event enquiries, introductory meetings and client visits 
  • Respond to client enquiries for events in a timely manner and lead on administrative elements of each event, ensuring that all relevant paperwork is raised and documented; this includes contracts and invoices, and attendees’ lists 
  • Liaise with clients to deliver all events to an exceptionally high standard and to maximise their potential, providing guidance and expertise on use of budget, choice of space and advising supplies. 
  • Successfully manage and develop relationships with artists across events to ensure partnerships are maximised, and artists remain fully engaged and committed to Made In Stirling in the long-term 
  • Work closely with the event support departments including Creative Stirling to establish good relationships 
  • Ensure that all audit and system based requirements for events are taken in an accurate and timely manner 


  • Working closely with workshop leaders, to ensure that all events are effectively managed and delivered with minimum impact to Made In Stirling Store. 
  • Supporting and assisting clients to run their event effectively both in the lead up to an event and on the night 
  • Assisting with the logistics of events organised by Creative Stirling working closely with other departments on events, such as exhibition openings parties, and other. 


  • Work with the wider team to contribute to a comprehensive marketing strategy, to include mailings, eNewsletters, telephone and social media campaigns and special promotion events 
  • Assist with the production of marketing materials, as required.
