David grew up in a small village outside Stirling and has always had a love for the hills, the woods and the animals that surrounded it. David opened Sticks and Stones, a small eco-aware furniture business that endeavours to produce pieces that are carbon minimal in their collection of materials and their construction processes.
All the wood used in the collection is storm damaged deadfall, or purchased from a not-for-profit wood management yard in Oakley, Fife. The stone is loose and fallen pieces from abandoned quarries and is collected by hand and on a bicycle with trailer. Everything is created almost entirely under the light from the sun and using as few electrically powered tools as possible, employing techniques such as hand drilling, sanding, cutting and using dowels and wood joints instead of screws. Off-cuts and other gathered materials are used to produce other items such as tea light holders, jewellery and sculptures.
