Email Alison Borthwick
Alison started by studying ceramics and printmaking at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. After University she set up a pottery manufacturing business in Glasgow. This was followed by a move to a basement workshop in the city centre, before moving to open the Buchlyvie Pottery Shop near Loch Lomond in 1989.
Alison’s main inspiration comes from Japanese paintings and brush strokes, plus the sensitive yet striking use of underglaze colours. Each new piece is hand cast in porcelain, reproducing the fine quality of the original, using a variety of decorative techniques. Each piece is painted by hand then fired to a final temperature of 12800C, producing a finish which is both robust and translucent, plus: oven, dishwasher and microwave safe.
