About US

As a creative agency for Stirling, we assert change through enterprise, arts and culture working with and for all of Stirling’s diverse communities.

Creative Stirling’s inclusive model brings around £250,000 per annum into the local economy. Having grown and learned with our creative community networks over ten years, we will continue to evolve to meet the needs of the local creative sector workforce and community as an approachable and energetic organisation, designed to sustainably support diversity in contemporary arts and culture for our city region.

We have proven resilience as a creative enterprise by transforming our former city centre department store home, into a dynamic cultural community space - through significantly challenging times. We are committed to do more to address the worsening inequalities affecting our communities in light of increasing challenges we all face, by cultivating arts and creativity for all with a focus on celebrating local people and place.

Made in Stirling

Shopping at Made in Stirling Store to fund what we do in our communities

Creative Stirling’s community programs and workshops are made possible through our trading arm Made In Stirling. Did you know that all income from sales, workshops, hires and events through our Venue at 44 King Street - goes directly to local creatives, many of them young and early career, with all profits from our social enterprise invested back into supporting creative enterprise.

COMMUNITY

Creativity is what gives us the means to stoke the furnace of new ideas for community-led projects, initiating opportunity for empowerment of our communities and supporting the experiences we need as our roadmap to achieve a fairer future society. That’s what we believe and what we aim to achieve, working with others.

From our High Street Venue at 44 King Street we deliver workshops, events and projects working with local artists and creative practitioners, raising the profile of our small City as well as its broad networks of creative talent. What we do best, is work collaboratively with other community agencies, local business and across other sectors and we are here for you - if you have an idea for a project, need space for a group activity or meeting or want to partner with us on an event or exhibition.

We offer welcoming creative activities free of charge for young people who live in Stirling’s least affluent communities and although we still have to fundraise for ambitious projects, having a trading arm means that we are less reliant on public subsidy than other arts charities, so allowing us to provide accessible creative and cultural experiences within our communities, sustainably. Enabling creativity helps drive regeneration within the city centre and 44 King Street is a great destination for visitors as well as local people - bringing something culturally fresh for all to enjoy, through our vibrant and engaging community led creative and cultural events programme.

“CREATIVE STIRLING GAVE ME A HOME WHEN I NEEDED IT MOST. THE SUPPORT WITH MY ART PRACTICE HAS HELPED ME FIND MY FEET WITHIN THE ART WORLD. AS A RECENT GRADUATE, I HAVE LEARNT HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO BE CONNECTED TO OTHER CREATIVES IN SCOTLAND.”

— Artist Mia McGregor

Demand for more community events and projects and a lengthening waiting list of artists looking for space to show and sell their work, illustrated the need for Creative Stirling to scale its activities.

In November 2018, with the help of our artists and makers collective, business partners and our friends in the community, we opened our doors at 44 King Street to our new Creative Hub in the heart of the City. In a matter of weeks, an empty retail outlet was transformed into our new collective shop, community gallery, workshop, venue and event space.

Our vision is to extend Creative Stirling’s reach into the community. Ideas that are on the table and for which we are actively seeking funding, are a community kitchen and café, capital for equipment for makers workshops and a children’s learning space. The hub will be a creative space that welcomes people in and where practical support for creative enterprise and local talent will be available.
